Gorgeous new acrylic beads

I stumbled across these gorgeous two tone, almost metallic acrylic beads so bought some in pink, orange and purple. They're stunning and have a really good effect in jewellery. I really like random and quite casual jewellery, so made a couple of knotted short necklaces with 2 sets,

and a lariat from the purple ones.
Am thinking I may need to purchase some more depending on how these go down.

My facebook page is also going well. Over 235 fans, so just need to get the orders up now. Have to say I'm a bit worried that I've not been contacted by the tax office as I sent my new business details to them online. Don't think I received an email to confirm (will have to check), my details were sent, so may end up ringing them...don't want to get in trouble.

My facebook page is, and there's pretty much all of my jewellery on there, whereas there's only a few items on misi as it's so expensive to list when you get thousands of views and only 1 purchase. It also doesn't help when your customers don't then leave feedback, so there's no proven reputation for new customers to be encouraged to purchase if they're unsure.

First fete opportunity

Had a phone call the other day from a friend who organises her kids school fete each year. Last year her jewellery stall person dropped out at the last moment so she'd asked if I could do it, but it was too last minute as I'd not really set myself up properly for a business. But she's now asked again if she can pass on my name to the relevant person who's organising this hopefully I'll be doing a fete and selling my jewellery at it.

I've been sorting all my stock out, taking lots of photos (handily I've already started stock & price list spreadsheets, ready for my sales/payments records, and my facebook page means I've also got reasonable photos with codes for all the items for ease of records), and now the exciting bit is trying to work out display solutions.

I've got hold of some mug trees (wanted wooden ones really that I was then going to cover in ribbons to pretty up, but actually got some plain metal ones), some mesh 'paper trays' which I'll stand up and put earrings on, a mesh basket for a clearance basket. I've also got a loo roll wire holder which I'm going to cover and use to lay bracelets over, and have bought a lovely old 'suitcase' box, which I'm going to pin ribbons crisscrossing over so I can hang items over. So a real mixture - will have to lay out a table and see what it looks like.

There's so much planning to do and get sorted out, as well as making more items and all to be ready for the start of July. Can't wait to get the information now, so I can get confirmation I'm in.

Baby face competition time

Well, my OH is going to kill me, but I've entered Nathaniel (who's now 3 1/2 months old - can't remember if I've mentioned I had a baby on here yet!) into the Babyface of Tomy competition. Not so fussed about him winning (especially as I'm not sure Ralph would let him!), but the runner up prizes would be brilliant.

So we need all the votes we can get...please vote here (shameless plug!)

Beautiful metallics and pearls

I love pearls, although I never really did when I was growing up - I think they're something you grow into - but they make a lovely addition to other gems & beads. Plus I think potato pearls are really cute in a single strand bracelet.

Here's another couple of recent charm bracelet makes.

I've also made quite a different type of necklace for me. Really simple seed bead strands with a donut pendant. Another necklace I love that I've just made is a really plain one strand necklace made using blue lace agate. It's a stunning gemstone in one of my favourite colours...I'm not sure I'll be able to part with it.

2 new pieces

Really pleased as managed today to get out the jewellery supplies and make a couple of pieces. I love making chunky charm bracelets and have some gorgeous unusual champagne coloured findings which I wanted to use. I'm really pleased with this and have a few more bases to do some other colourways.

Also have tried a different type of necklace using some wirework and creating a frame for the beads.

New camera = better photos

My old camera died a death...well, it started putting stripes across the photos and screen, so decided it was time to stop relying on my mobile camera and invest in a new camera. After quite a bit of research and lots of recommendations from friends about Panasonic Lumixes, I decided to opt for the new Panasonic Lumix TZ18.

After a lot of stress ordering from one website who seemed to struggle to actually deliver my order to me, Amazon delivered next day with their usual reliability and it was time to play. The Leica lens that my mum raved about definitely makes a difference. The photos are so clear and true to colour compared with my old Canon Powershot, and considering I opted for only a compact (although a superzoom at that), you wouldn't believe that the pictures weren't taken with an SLR.

I've only taken a few of my jewellery shots, but want to try and reshoot as many as possible with a proper white background to make the colours much clearer and real than the existing photos are. So once I have some spare time (hard to find with a 3 month old son who doesn't nap for longer than 30 mins at a time) I will be taking some photos and making some more jewellery which I've not done for ages.

I've also been stock taking and sorting out my costs & price lists. Now I've sold some items I want to get it all straight with a good record system. Good intentions, but how long it'll take to get organised I don't know.
